ATLANTA — On National Girls & Women in Sports Day, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones announced the launch of Girl Dads for Burt, a statewide coalition of fathers standing up for fairness, safety, and opportunity in girls’ sports.
“Being a dad isn’t just a talking point. It’s a responsibility — and one I don’t take lightly,” Lt. Governor Burt Jones said. “Protecting girls on and off the field shouldn’t be controversial. It’s about safety, common-sense and doing the right thing.”
Just announced, the Girl Dads for Burt coalition already includes a leadership committee of fathers from across Georgia. The group reflects a diverse cross-section of the state, including law enforcement officers, elected officials, coaches, and Hall of Fame athletes like Champ Bailey, all united in standing up for fairness and the integrity of girls’ sports.
The coalition is built around a shared belief that girls deserve fair competition, safe athletic environments, and the opportunity to succeed on their own merits.
Jones has long made protecting fairness in girls’ sports a priority and was instrumental in the passage of Senate Bill 1, The Riley Gaines Act, landmark legislation that ensures athletic teams are designated based on biological sex, protects privacy and safety, and preserves opportunities for girls to compete, earn scholarships, and succeed based on merit.
“Girls’ sports open doors to scholarships, confidence, leadership, and lifelong opportunity,” Jones said. “This coalition is made up of fathers who understand our responsibility to protect our girls and their future.”
The Girl Dads for Burt coalition will continue to grow in the months ahead, with members sharing their stories and encouraging parents across the state to speak up for the next generation.
